26 October 2017 – SmartMe.IO archives with great satisfaction its first participation in Smau Milano. For the young Sicilian company specializing in the development of products that combine IoT’s open and low cost technologies with the cloud based on the OpenStack platform, the opportunity to present itself to the general public of professionals as an innovative partner of a great brand like Intel and a very prestigious award: the Lamarck Award.
Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck was the French naturalist who, at the end of the eighteenth century, elaborated an evolutionary theory according to which living organisms would gradually change over time adapting to the environment.
Set up in collaboration with the Group of Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria, within Smau, the Lamarck award is then assigned to those startups that show the most lively spirit of adaptation to market developments, to the new needs of businesses, citizens and the public Administration.
Among the necessary requirements, the practical applicability of the projects even within already structured companies.
This is the case of the platform developed by SmartMe.IO, connected to a network of widespread sensors installed in the urban area, based on low-cost hardware technology, open software, scalable infrastructure, extreme flexibility and reliability.
At the Intel stand, SmartMe.IO presented SmartMeCam, the hardware and software solution able to recognize and analyze in real time the elements present in a generic video stream.
The system, based on an Intel microprocessor of the Core I7 family that provides the resources necessary for the deep learning algorithm on which the artificial intelligence software is based, can be integrated and acquire images with a camera, to then process them, or interface to a network of already existing cameras.
Its monitoring, identification and traceability features that are always active, even in standalone mode, lend themselves to applications in complex environments such as airports, stations or large squares, where it is necessary to collect statistical information on the number of people and other mobile objects present (bicycles , motorcycles, cars) and their movements, on the most crowded areas, the most attractive shop windows or the state of the queues.
